Our parish is once again celebrating the Sacrament of Baptism for children. We are complying with the local and state protocols and the directives of our Archdiocese regarding the COVID-19 pandemic. We will further adapt our baptismal procedures as the protocols and directives change.
Because the celebration of Baptism is such a significant event for you and your child we require parents and godparents to participate in a Pre-Baptism Class in preparation for the Baptism. There are two ways in which these Pre-Baptism Classes are offered.
An in-person Pre-Baptism class will be offered on the 2nd Tuesday of each month at 7:30 p.m. In order to safeguard everyone’s health, this class will be held in the church where we can maintain proper social distancing. To participate in this class, it is necessary to sign up through our parish office. The number of people in attendance will be limited according to health guidelines. Both parents and both godparents are expected to attend the class. If all four are not able to attend you will need to make special arrangements with our parish staff. A Pre-Baptism Class in Spanish will be offered on the 1st Tuesday of each month at 7:30 p.m. with the same procedures as noted above.
A second way of preparing for Baptism is a Zoom Class which we are just initiating. This Zoom Class will take place on the 2nd and 4th Wednesdays of each month at 7:30 p.m. Registrations must be made through the parish office. Parents need to complete a Baptism Registration Form prior to selecting a Zoom Class date. Each class will be limited to three families, on a first come, first served basis. Both parents and both godparents need to participate.
Godparents must be at least 16 years of age, have completed their Sacraments of Initiation and be currently practicing the Catholic Faith. If married, godparents must be married in the Catholic Church.
We are only able to accommodate the two primary godparents for either the Zoom Classes or the in-person classes. At the in-person classes no children are permitted in order to safeguard the health of all and for the order of the class. There are no exceptions.
Deacon Steve will conduct the Zoom classes and Deacon Ray will be conducting the in-person classes. If you have need of further information please contact our parish office at (626) 964-3629.
